Tianyuan Garments Company of Suzhou and SoftWear Automation of Atlanta are teaming up to create a t-shirt production line that completely automated. This production will take place at Tianyuan’s newly acquired plant in Little Rock, Arkansas.

Georgia Institute of Technology’s (GA Tech’s) Advanced Technology Development Center created and patented the technology for this project. The system will utilize cameras to map the soft fabric while using robots to steer it through the sewing needles. The t-shirts being created are for Adidas.

“From fabric cutting and sewing to finished product, it takes roughly four minutes,” said Tang Xinhong, chairman of Tianyuan Garments. “We will install 21 production lines. When fully operational, the system will make one T-shirt every 22 seconds. We will produce 800,000 T-shirts a day for Adidas.”

Along with decreasing labor-intensive clothing manufacturing, this project is creating 400+ jobs for the people of Arkansas. We at RAGTRADE ATLANTA are excited that both GA Tech and SoftWear Automation are apart this project, and we look forward to it’s future.
