AmericasMart® welcomed Sarah Jessica Parker to the July 2017 Atlanta International Gift & Home Furnishings Market® in Atlanta to present her journey from actor to successful lifestyle brand and creator.  Moderated by her personal friend, designer Nathan Turner, Parker shared how personal experience prepared her for a new role as a retailer.

Creating a business is much like telling a story. Parker’s role as a producer instilled the importance of finding the right partners to build a business while she developed her team. She learned working hard and listening to people with experience creates opportunities.

As a hands-on designer and decision maker, she shared how the collaboration process inspired her. She challenged the marketplace to embrace color as a neutral and used sales data from Europe to convince U.S. retailers to take a chance on the concept. It worked: Women were waiting for permission to make a statement with their shoes, and her collection offers bold alternatives.

The evolution of the SJP Collection into brick and mortar resonated with the audience of retailers. Her appreciation of the courage, tenacity and energy of those who build a business is a key component in the success of her two retail stores in New York and Las Vegas.

More than a thousand buyers and exhibitors from around the world were on hand to see Parker and Turner, to learn about building a brand and to embrace the entrepreneurial spirit as part of their experience at a Market unlike any other – AmericasMart Atlanta.
