We are gearing up for our 2015 runway show in October and we have selected our featured designers. So it only seemed fitting to spotlight each one through our designer spotlight series. This week, we will feature one of our returning designers, Edmond Newton, who was recently announced as a contestant on season 14 of Project Runway (scheduled to premiere August 6, 2015).

Born  in Steubenville Ohio, Edmond grew up in the small textile mill town in Union, South Carolina. The son of a military / renaissance man, Edmond became fascinated by images of his father’s travels and life experiences through out the world.  As the only child, Edmond developed a love for the arts and fashion which later became a strong interest for him.  At a young age, he began to travel throughout the nation with his mom while attending hair shows and fashion events.

Exposure to the fashion world sparked a creative energy that would only shine and become even more bright. Edmond later developed a luxury menwear label titled  his first fashion label titled Noir Soul Menswear. The label incorporated lots of inspiration from the musical and fashion icons of the 70’s & 80’s era such as Jimmy Hendricks, Miles Davis, and Marvin Gaye.

A few years later, Edmond relocated to Atlanta where he really began to live the life of a fashion designer. He shortly opened his very first fashion design studio / showroom.  He began to create a buzz in the fashion industry while attracting celebrity and media requests. This solidified his design direction as he continued to build his fashion house.

Shortly after, Edmond was selected to become a cast member of the very first season of NBC’s television show Fashion Star. Fashion Star gave Edmond the opportunity to enter into the homes of America while working with three of  Americas top retail chain stores; Macy’s, Saks Fifth Avenue, and H&M.   Edmond’s designs where bought, manufactured and retailed in Macy’s department stores. On the show Edmond worked under the mentorship of menswear fashion designer John Varvatos,  actress/entreprenuer  Jessica Simpson, and also television personality/designer Nicole Richie where he was exposed to a more commercial interpretation of fashion.
